Organizations purchased, distributed, and deployed services and products to support and maintain business as usual. During this rapid transition, many overlooked essential ITAM processes, shortening due diligence or, in some cases, completely ignoring them. The common issues were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Excess purchases:\u202f<\/strong>Organizations were unprepared to change to an entirely work-from-home model, which was unexpected. Because of the unpredictability, organizations purchased additional assets (more than their current needs) if they needed them soon. Result \u2013 excess assets that are unnecessary, unused, and unusable.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Excess spending<\/strong>\u202f\u2013 Organizations were forced to make hasty purchase decisions to provide the team with the necessary supplies to conduct business as usual. Vendors and service providers may have used the demand-supply shortage to make money. There was no standard bargaining or comparisons done to secure the best deal. Some of these purchases may have been useless for post-pandemic operations. Result \u2013 Overspending on necessary and not-so-essential assets.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Risks with new associations<\/strong>\u202f\u2013 Supply chains were focused on getting the assets required. There was minimal to no time for identifying and verifying risks involved in associating with new vendors, suppliers, and service providers. Result \u2013 Reliability issues and internal and legal compliance risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">However, these are not difficulties that firms that have not implemented IT Asset Management (ITAM) have experienced. Get rid of contracts and relationships that prove to be risky.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Once the analysis is complete, organizations can start working towards implementing the changes to get desired results.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Implement_ITAM_%E2%80%AF\"><\/span><strong>Implement ITAM:<\/strong>\u202f&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">An effective ITAM solution can bring multiple advantages to the organizations, irrespective of the size and nature of the business. The primary objective of an ITAM would be to help keep costs and risks down and get the most out of IT investments. It also allows the organization to analyze and monitor the performance of assets at various lifecycle phases. Advantages include:\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Accounting of assets:<\/strong> ITAM helps keep track of all assets owned by the organization &#8211; IT and non-IT.
